Cairn at the Fox Stone
Join The UProjects Team for a 6/7 mile walk above the Dovestone area of the Chew Valley.

A walk to the Dovestone area of the Peak District National Park, passing the imposing cliffs of Dovestone quarries our route will take us steeply up hill to Ashway Gap and Platt's Cross, a memorial to Oldham MP James Platt who was tragically killed in a shooting accident in 1857.

From here we will pass the Ashway Stone and cross the Gap to follow "The Edges" to the Fox Stone Cairn, a plaque is placed here to remember two local climbers that lost their lives in the Italian Dolomites.
Onwards to Bramley’s Cot, a strange ruin situated high above the valley and a great place to rest before a steep descent back down into the valley and our return to the village of Greenfield for well earned refreshment!

Other information:
The walk crosses high moorland terrain that is uneven and can be boggy underfoot so good walking boots are recommended.
The area can be subject to severe weather conditions so be prepared with suitable clothing and spare layers including waterproofs and hat and gloves.
Everything is best carried in a rucksack with water and a snack.
